Band Members

Steven N. Garcia – was born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX. He picked up the guitar at the ripe old age of 14 and has been unable to put it down ever since. He describes his love of music by stating, “I love writing and performing! When I’m on stage, it’s the only time that I truly feel like myself.”

Major influences as a young musician were Rick Springfield, Bon Jovi, and The Beatles. Growing up Steven played in bands with family and friends. He played guitar with the family band “Dreamer” for three years before breaking away to pursue his dream of writing and performing with his own band, “Promise”.

Even when Steven was not performing “…you could always find Steve in his room with his guitar and notebook, writing and singing”, states his best friend, David Trevino. In 1995 fate brought him to Houston where he started his current band named “The Rachels”. They started off as a three-piece band, which amazed fans from the start. Even though The Rachels have seen many band members come and go, Steven has managed to remain the heart and soul of the band. Steven has recorded and released four original CD’s and one CD single. When it comes to writing songs and making albums, the well will never run dry. “I could live in the studio and die a happy man” says Steven.

He has been a member of ASCAP since 1998, but just recently switched to BMI. In 1998, Steven signed a two year contract with Six-Tone Records, based out of Houston, TX. After record executive John Holmes heard Steven performing in a local venue. “The minute I saw him and heard him sing, I knew he was the one. There are things in music that you can’t teach, things you are just born with and Steven has “it” .” says John Holmes. Steven was able to sell his CD “World of Dreams” in such music stores as Sam Goody and Cactus Records. He has managed to sell over 12,000 original CD’s to date.

Steven has always loved playing and performing, which shows in his performance and reflected in his  strong and loyal fan base. The Rachels have been able to keep capacity crowds coming into local venues all over Houston for the past ten years. Loyal time fan Amy Hill states “I have been following Steve all around Houston for the past eight years. His energy on stage is intense and keeps me coming back year after year”. Shortly after its inception, The Rachels had to become a full-time entity sometimes performing 5-6 days a week to accommodate requests of local club owners. In 2003, 2004 and 2005, Steven was invited to tour Japan courtesy of Lone Wolf Entertainment. Local radio stations (KTBZ 94.5 and KLOL 101.1) have played Steven’s original music as well as getting personal support from local radio DJ’s, Outlaw Dave (KLOL) and (KTBZ). His band has been able to play large events throughout Houston such as the 1999 Houston Marathon, the Texaco/Houston Grand Prix in ’01, KLOL holiday ball, the Freedom Festival 2004, the Spring Crawfish Festival (5 years straight), and The Astros Opening Day Party in 2000 and 2004. Every year, major clients such as Clear Channel Communications, Budweiser, and Rice University would regularly request The Rachels to play at their events.

Steven took a break from playing in the band and began doing acoustic shows in April of 2004.” It was just time for a break from the routine. ” says Steven. He has since concentrated on writing and recording his next CD “No Love Here”, which he recently released in August of 2006. In July of 2005 , Steven signed on with Clay Walker’s publishing company , “Anjelito Music” as a songwriter and an artist. This lasted until 2010 when the publishing company decided to shut down, but not before The Rachels” made it on the movie, “Nobel Things” which Steven was the only performer on the soundtrack that wrote his own song, “I Can’t Complain” . Other artists on the soundtrack were Clay Walker, Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Bird, Dobie Grey, Tracy Lawrence, Pam Tillis, and Bo Bice.

Steven has written and co-written over 200 songs. Writing music is truly his passion. “On my nights off from performing, I enjoy sitting on my couch with a pen and paper and creating something few people can do and do well.” Steven hopes to one day - “…write my own Sgt. Peppers Album”. “Performing my music to a sell out crowd and being recognized as one of the true great songwriters of my time is my ultimate dream.”
